“The understanding of the Three Principles is both the cure and the prevention for errors that can occur in the human thought system.”
Sydney Banks, The Enlightened Gardener Revisited
Meet Sydney Banks
Sydney Banks was my mentor starting on April Fool’s Day 1983 until his death in 2009. He mentored numerous business, academic and health professionals. I spent hours with him personally, via visits and frequent phone calls and even personal audio cassettes sent to me from Canada. Right after Syd had his enlightenment experience, which is described on the video, The Experience, he realized that what he had seen would forever change the fields of psychiatry and psychology and alleviate the suffering of millions. His prophetic vision is being fulfilled as the Three Principles understanding spreads globally.
The healthy healing fire that started with Syd’s experience in 1973 continues to bring miraculous relief to psychological and, often, physical suffering throughout the world, regardless of DSM-5-TR or ICD-11 diagnostic labels. Such labels often are applied with the message that the receiver is permanently broken or lacking.
In Chana Studley's new book, Beyond Diagnosis: A Paradigm Shift from Pathology to Innate Health, you can read interviews with me, one on psychotic disorders and one on neurodevelopmental disorders. The Stories of Hope and Neurodiversity interviews I did with Elizabeth Lovius tell about remarkable healings that I've witnessed across all diagnostic categories.
A new psychology is coming…” that will differ from most present-day concepts in that it will help individuals to realize the mental health they already have inside them…this psychology will be spiritually based, and its healing powers will be beyond anything known to date."

Bill is one of the most impactful teachers that I have had the privilege to learn from. He helped show me where my experiences were coming from and that helped transform my life into a lighter and freer experience. Bill pointed me in the direction of my own personal wisdom and taught me that there is an endless source of wisdom that is available to anyone, anytime. Bill shares from the heart and is a very special teacher. I am so grateful for everything that I gained working with him!

I have been blessed by many mentors along my journey of understanding the Three Principles. What is unique about Dr. Bill Pettit is his sharing truth with clarity and certainty. I have spent many hours with him individually, in small groups as well as in large audiences.
As a teacher, I witnessed him meet each person where they are with loving acceptance. As a guide, his gentle yet certainty of truth directs me to my wisdom. As a mentor, he provides a vast landscape for me to explore, learn and grow both professionally and personally.
Dr. Pettit’s generous spirit invited me into a deep exploration of my mind body soul allowing symptoms of various autoimmune conditions to fall into the background of my consciousness. I am forever grateful to Dr. Bill Pettit.

Recommended Three Principles Books
Dozens of insightful books have been written and advertised as sharing stories and insights based on the Three Universal Principles of Mind, Thought and Consciousness. All such books, each valuable, were written from the author’s loving desire to share their newfound peace and joy.
I encourage all to read Syd’s six books twice before looking into those listed below which seem, to me, to be most congruent with Syd’s message. The first listed books were written by my wife, Linda Sandel Pettit, Ed.D. and by my late wife, Sue Shellabarger Pettit, RN [1945-2000].
Leaning into Curves:
Trusting the Wild Intuitive Way of Love
by Linda Sandel Pettit, Ed.D. (2024)
This award-winning book, an inspirational self-help memoir was written by my current wife. It describes her journey of evolving spiritual consciousness and how the Three Principles understanding helped her find an explanation for intuition, and to see the logic behind love, forgiveness and our essential nature as creators.
Coming Home:
3 Principles-based Poetry
by Sue Shellabarger Pettit (1987)
A collection of 26 poems written by my late wife, Sue, in December 1984 over a 48-hour period in a time of deep gratitude, one week after the arrival of our third child, Margaret Alexandra Noelle [Maggie.] I used them along with The Missing Link by Syd Banks in my group work for nearly 25 years and witnessed powerful impact from the feelings awakened.
Dr. Bill Pettit has unique understanding of the human mind that has transformed many lives and inspired so many others. Dr. Pettit showed me that my lived experience is just as valuable as formal education, helping me realize that I belong on the same stages as those who guide people to their innate well-being.
The gesture may seem small, but for me, it is a blessing because I learned to trust my story, knowing that it holds the power to inspire and heal. That experience had a profound impact on me personally and professionally.
Bill's kindness extends beyond his words. He's generously passed along books that have helped me grow in ways I didn't expect, and he's modeled for me how to navigate disagreements lovingly and respectfully, ensuring that all voices are heard.
His wisdom and personal contributions have been life-changing for so many, and I'm honored to call him a colleague and friend.
